As a teacher, Mia brings with her over 9 years of experience in private lessons, chamber music coaching, and music theory and ear training. She offers private violin lessons through her studio in Oakland, California, and is a Senior Faculty member at Inspire Music in San Francisco. Mia has also been on faculty at Little Mission Studios and the Chamber Music Institute at the University of Maine, and has been a chamber music coach at the Waterville Valley Music Center and the Kipp-Bay Academy in San Francisco.
Mia's violin students range from young beginners to collegiate-level performers, and lessons have an emphasis on a high level of performance and building strong practice techniques, as well as fostering a love for music and self-expression. Her students regularly perform in seasonal recitals, participate in All-City Orchestra, and gain entry to the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. Most recently, Mia has had students perform alongside the Kronos Quartet at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and win the annual Concerto Competition at Lowell High School.
Mia works to tailor each one of her students' musical educations to their own learning style and goals, and she teaches her young beginner students through the Adventures in Violinland method books, which were written by her former teacher, Juilliard faculty member and famed pedagogue Shirley Givens. Other books that are used in violin lessons include the Suzuki method books, Hrimaly and Carl Flesch Scale Studies, Introducing the Positions and Yost shifting exercises, various etudes, sonatas, and concerti.
To learn the violin is a rewarding and challenging endeavor that teaches discipline, self-expression, and many other valuable skills! To schedule a consultation for yourself or your child for private lessons with Ms. Nardi-Huffman, please submit a request through the Contact form above.
